JANUARY IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS MONTH ATTEND A TRAINING TO LEARN HOW YOU CAN HELP
Our role in fighting human trafficking in Central Oregon is multi-level. We work directly with victims to help them regain independence, safety, and stability, and to rebuild their lives. We provide comprehensive case management and crisis intervention, assist in creating safety plans, as well as offering much needed emotional support to survivors of sex and labor trafficking. Our case managers also work with survivors to access community resources such as psychological counseling, medical care, emergency housing, transportation, and academic needs.
We are the member providing team coordination for the Deschutes County Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC) Response Team, the group responsible for responding to cases of human trafficking in Central Oregon. This team is a collaboration of agencies working together to coordinate and leverage resources to provide a comprehensive approach to child sex trafficking and services to victims and survivors.
CSEC Team members are representatives from the agencies involved in recovering victims:
Police: Bend City, Redmond, Deschutes County Sheriff, Oregon State, and the FBI
Deschutes County: Parole and Probation, Behavioral Health, DHS-Child Welfare, Juvenile Department, District Attorney’s Office, and Victim’s Assistance
Other Agencies: KIDS Center, who provide the forensic interviews, and us, J Bar J Youth Services’ at: project providing the case management and support well beyond the involvement of the full team.
The Response Team is certified by the Oregon Department of Justice and works to: identify and recover victims of sex trafficking; proactively investigate, identify, apprehend and prosecute those engaged in sex trafficking; and provide trauma-informed, victim-centered services to restore those impacted by child sexual exploitation.
